A Hint

Postby Mbuckley55 » Fri Jul 16, 2010 8:12 pm

When I started turning acrylics, I had problems with blow outs a lot.

I was talking to the guy at the local turning store and he told me to try this, It has worked fine ever since.

When you get the blanks cut, drilled, glued and pen milled, put it against the sander and round off the corners.

It has worked wonders for blow outs and than once I mount it on the lathe I use a very sharp bowl gouge to take it down.slow steady cuts than to finish it, I use another gouge and shave it down and the acrylic just comes off in long streamers. that is when I know I am cutting it right.

hope that helps

That makes sense. Like cutting the corners to 45deg. to turn a spindle with out splintering.

Thanks for the tip
