Does anyone turn alabaster and soapstone but me?

I don't know of anyone locally who does, but Max Krimmel from Colorado is a master at it. I watched a demo back in the mid to late 80's that Max did and I was blown away. Never knew you could turn stone!

How do you deal with all the fine dust and is it corrosive to the bearings of the lathe?

I've been turning soapstone and alabaster for a couple of years.
I've still got good bearings on my lathes, and have gone through two cheap belt sanders but you ought to see my bowls!

I have been turning like crazy and would love to show you some pictures.
I really enjoy turning these rocks and they have been very satisfying.
You just wouldn't believe the colors and patterns that are in those rocks.

Yes
I turn only stone now Alabaster.
I have some soapstone pieces but use them for inlays and segmented rings.
There not a lot of us around.
But I would rather turn stone than wood anymore.

Likewise I only turn stone and love it.
I turn alot of soap whole and segmented. Sold one today.
