On the Cover:A collaboration between this issue’s showcase artist, John Mydock, and Gregg Smith, whose previous article appeared in Issue #4. The vessel received the Honolulu Academy of Arts Purchase Award and the O’Neill Award of Excellence at their recent show. Academy Art Center Director Vince Hazen said it best: “It is highly crafted eye-candy made from carefully joined wood sections turned on a lathe. The urn-shaped vessel is finished with slick lacquered color fades and hot-rod pinstriped graff-style decoration.” I saw this in person and it is a beautiful piece!
